US trying to get Latin America to join Russia sanctions

Washington, April 16 (UNI/Sputnik) The United States is trying to get Latin American nations to adhere to anti-Russian sanctions through threats, ignoring the risks in the region, says Russian Ambassador to the United States , Anatoly Antonov. After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, US Under Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols said the United States expected Latin American countries comply with sanctions against Russian financial organizations and state-linked companies. “Irritation seems to be growing within the US State Department over the independent stance of Latin American nations, who refuse to join the sanctions ‘crusade’ against Russia and have their own take on the Ukraine crisis. The purpose of such statements is clear: to intimidate its partners through secondary restrictions for non-compliance with the anti-Russian campaign,” Antonov wrote on the embassy’s Telegram page. According to the ambassador, the United States is not not concerned about the obvious damage of anti-Russian sanctions to the development of Latin American nations, their food security and social stability UNI/SPOUTNIK GNK
